BNL Round 9: Suns beat Rhinos in the most crucial game of the week- November 14, 2021

Egoli Magic - EC Windbreakers 75-45 Bottom-ranked Windbreakers (0-5) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 75-45 loss to second ranked Magic (4-1) in Johannesburg. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. Magic forced 34 Windbreakers turnovers and outrebounded them 59-46 including a 24-12 advantage in offensive rebounds. They brought some defensive toughness making 9 blocks. It was a good game for swingman Nkosinathi Sibanyoni who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 22 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 blocks. Nigerian forward Tony Chukwurah (199-94) contributed with a double-double by scoring 10 points, 13 rebounds, 4 assists and 6 steals for the winners. Magic's coach felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Botswana guard Thuto Gaborone (181-92) answered with 8 points and 10 rebounds and power forward Julian Wright (196-90) added 11 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Windbreakers. Defending champion maintains second place with 4-1 record behind leader KZ Marlins. Windbreakers lost their fifth game in a row. They still close the standings with five games lost. Leader Suns faced 3rd placed Rhinos. Host Suns (5-0) smashed guests from Mbombela (3-2) 69-47. Suns dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Rhinos' 34. They outrebounded Rhinos 60-39 including a 43-28 advantage in defensive rebounds. Suns looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Rhinos' players. The best player for the winners was DR Congolese power forward Emmanuel Shine (199-94) who had a double-double by scoring 17 points and 13 rebounds. The former international Kagiso Ngoetjana (198-89) chipped in a double-double by scoring 13 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Vusi Sibeko who recorded 10 points and 7 rebounds and DR Congolese forward Josias Bantaleka (196-2) added 2 points and 9 rebounds respectively. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Suns have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain first place with 5-0 record. Rhinos at the other side keep the third position with two games lost.
